Art & Design
At Haberdashers' Slade Green, we believe the purpose of Art & Design education is to engage pupils by firing their imaginations. We believe this fundamental means of self-expression should be enriched with the knowledge, concepts and skills to express their responses to ideas and experiences in a visual or tactile form. While it is essentially a practical subject, pupils should excel through the provision of opportunities for reflection and, with increasing sensitivity, the acquisition of the ability to make informed, critical responses to their own work and that of others. There is great pleasure to be derived from Art and Design and, through deeper understanding; pupils can gain access to cultural richness and diversity. The appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts enriches all our lives; at Slade Green Temple Grove, we prepare children to participate in and seek enjoyment from a both the local and worldwide culture of the arts, celebrating both classically recognised fine artists and those from marginalised visual traditions.
Our Art and Design leader is Mr Hardy.
